Job Overview
The Animal Care Assistant reports directly to the Executive Director, but will take daily direction and cues from the Rehab & Training Supervisor. The main responsibilities will include:
• Maintaining safe, clean facilities for animals and guests
• Work directly with farm animals, including horses, cows, and chickens, for guest experiences and daily animal care
• Facilitate guest tours of the property and the Little Vaqueros Club kids camp at Gracie’s Farm
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays, as we cater to our traveling guests’ needs
• Work directly with other departments on the Ranch/at the Lodge to coordinate guest experiences and farm needs
• Must be highly focused on creating a luxury experience, with a desire to engage with guests to provide exceptional customer service
• Ability to work independently with little supervision
• Safely catch, halter, and lead horses; assist in preparing them for veterinary or farrier visits, and administer treatments as needed
• Perform routine barn tasks such as cleaning stalls and pens, managing fly control, cleaning equipment and feed buckets, administering treatments, and filling water troughs daily
• Daily care, cleaning, and maintenance of the chicken enclosure, including the following tasks:
- Letting the flock out in the morning and securing the flock back in the coop at the end of the day
- Cleaning and filling waterers
- Cleaning and filling feeders
- Collecting and delivering eggs
- Daily cleaning of nesting boxes and roosting areas
- Deep clean of the enclosure as directed
- Monitor flock health and report any concerns
Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience working with equines and farm animals
• Valid driver’s license required for operating ranch vehicles
• Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, reaching, walking, standing, and twisting
• Comfortable working independently in both indoor and outdoor environments and in all weather conditions
• Strong initiative, time management, and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects with minimal supervision
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness and efficiency
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work professionally with guests, vendors, peers, and managers

• Availability for extended hours and on-call shifts during guest events or inclement weather
• Positive, resourceful attitude with strong problem-solving skills
