Job Overview

POSITION PURPOSE

Solicit group business that enables the hotel to meet and/or exceed revenue goals in guestrooms, banquet food, beverage, and meeting room revenues.  This position will sell to corporate, government, entertainment, and association markets to maximize rooms and food and beverage revenues focusing on groups of 10 to 30 rooms on peak.  Position will service EMM size businesses; this is a one stop shop position that reports to the DOSM.  This is considered an entry level position that offers accomplished individuals an opportunity to grow a career in hospitality sales.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Solicit new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, site inspections, and written communication.
  • Ability to arrange and recover from last minute changes, and multi-task in a busy, changing environment.
  • Details, prepares, and initiates Banquet Event Orders to the client’s specifications and in conjunction with the Banquet Department, F&B Director, and Executive Chef.
  • Participate in daily Sales Stand-up meetings, attends weekly sales meeting and other meetings as directed.
  • Works with the hotel Revenue Manager and DOSM to determine room availability and rates.
  • Develop/maintain knowledge of market trends, competition, and customers.
  • Practice effective revenue/yield management strategies to include wise negotiation and booking function space, focused solicitation during soft occupancy periods and effective rate and price negotiation.
  • Consults with customers to plan details such as number of persons expected display space desired, and food service schedule.
  • Meets with customers during an event to insure proper delivery of hotel services.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the property and its offerings.
  • Obtains permits from fire and health departments to erect displays and exhibits for serving food in rooms other than dining rooms. Maintain accurate and proper handling/records of catering and reservations books.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of market position, banquet and food and beverage revenues, pricing and rate structures, sales strategies, yield management, booking trends, and future hotel planning.
  • Be fully knowledgeable of the capabilities and limitations of the hotel and departments that may impact sales strategies.
  • Conduct site tours for potential clients.
  • Achieve and exceed individual and team annual goals as established by the annual Marketing Plan.
  • Achieve budgeted revenues and expenses and maximize profitability related to the sales department.
  • Complete understanding of PCI Compliance and other accounting procedures.
  • Promptly respond to and resolve guest requests, complaints, or questions in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Ability to accurately use various offices and accounting software.
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, accounting programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and hotel sales system.

 

Education: High school or equivalent education required.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Schedule: Generally, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., however, must be able to work varying shifts based on business and client demand, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary.

Experience

  • Prior hospitality catering/sales management in a full-service hotel strongly preferred
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of all hotel departments and functions.
  • Knowledge of the BEO process
  • Must have negotiating skills, selling strategies, understanding of food and beverage.

Licenses or Certificates: Must be able to maintain valid driver’s license

Grooming: All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per Driftwood Hospitality Management and brand standards.
