Job Overview

This is a part-time position at the University Guest House on the University of Utah campus. The Maintenance Helper for the University Guest House & Conference Center, the hotel on the University of Utah campus, is part of the Maintenance Team and assists with maintaining the hotel and conference facilities. Free public transportation pass included with employment.

A background check, paid for by the department, and a Utah driver’s license are required.

The Maintenance Helper demonstrates the ability to prioritize and change course of action quickly, being flexible. Must have a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Provides outstanding guest service to guests as well as Guest House employees, demonstrates knowledge of general maintenance and related tools; the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and climb step ladders/scaffolding; and, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. Performs routine maintenance including minor carpentry repair work, lock changes, and minor electrical work.

Paints walls, doors, and other exposed surfaces as necessary. Conducts routine checks on machinery to determine maintenance required for proper operation. Follows supervisor’s instructions to ensure work orders are completed timely. Transports supplies and equipment as needed. Assists in maintaining tools and equipment. May include janitorial services. Must be professional.

Some maintenance and customer service preferred.
