POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sales Manager is responsible to actively solicit business for Explore Utah Valley through direct sales. He/she is charged with assisting in the development and carrying out of an effective business plan for bringing tour & travel, corporate meetings & conventions, tradeshows and special events to Utah Valley, which County Hotels & Resorts and the Utah Valley Convention Center will benefit from. He/she will actively supervise bureau sales department non-management staff and monitor department sales activity and reporting.
OVERALL GOAL:
Increase lodging room nights for Utah Valley Hotels and Resorts through pro-actively selling Utah Valley as a premier convention, business and tourism destination.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES (includes, but not limited to):
- Solicitation, follow-up, and coordination of group business for the Utah Valley Hotel and Resort community and other Utah Valley facilities, with emphasis on groups with peak rooms of 50 per night or more.
- Accountability for follow-up on all leads received until business either books definite, is lost, or regretted.
- Facilitate film and production inquiries for Utah Valley. Actively solicit film related business for Utah Valley.
- Identify business and growth opportunities for Utah Valley within an assigned market segment(s).
- Monitor and supervise sales personnel, ensure weekly reporting by sales staff, assist in developing department group room, leads and pro-active sales activity goals.
- Clear, concise, and detailed written and verbal communication in all correspondence, leads, and sales follow-up dealing with accounts and assigned projects.
- Site inspections and entertainment of key clients in an effort to build relationships and have them book Utah Valley over other competing destinations.
- Responsible for increasing weekend business for hotel properties.
- Continue to develop Utah Valley’s image and identity as a meeting and convention destination within the smaller meetings market.
- Participation in sales mission, blitzes, and direct sales activities.
- Attend appropriate industry meetings, conventions and trade shows.
- Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
- Supervise the maintenance by department staff of the client database for potential corporate meetings, conventions, film commission events, tradeshows, sporting and special events business for Utah Valley. Ensure timely reporting of all department sales activity within CRM database.
- Assist with organizing, developing and implementation of a comprehensive sales and marketing program.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Personally book groups of 50 rooms or more on peak nights into Utah Valley Hotels and Resorts with production goals established with the Director of Sales and/or the Executive Director.
- Supervise sales administrative team effort to book small groups into Utah Valley Hotels, Resorts and other facilities.
- To be a Utah Valley ambassador and representative in all areas.
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

- Ability to manage projects and recap all assigned activities
- Proficient in MS Windows including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook/Gmail
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two years’ experience with convention and visitors bureaus, hotels or convention centers with a demonstrated record of sales/marketing experience.
- Working familiarity and experience with Film related business and production desired.
- Substantial knowledge/awareness of the association/corporate marketplace.
- Experience in recognized convention industry meetings/trade shows.
- College degree required (or equivalent experience and training).
MEASUREMENT STANDARDS:
- Annual/Quarterly agreed upon goals, including personal booking goals for room nights.
- Completes work within established deadlines, time lines.
