Job Overview

As a Banquet Captain at Snowbird under the direction of the Conference Operations Manager and Assistant Manager to facilitate the events as stated on the Banquet Event Orders to the guest satisfaction. You will supervise and train wait staff in the standards of Conference Operations as well as tracks the event and bill the event at the end.

As a Banquet Captain at Snowbird, you will:

  • Oversee the implementation and completion of all events according to the Banquet Event Order (BEO), including conferences, special events, festivals, concerts, competitions and meal functions in order to successfully fulfill all agreements and optimize customer satisfaction and profitability.
  • Closing paperwork on assigned events to include: billing, computer entry, Captain’s reports, envelope deposit.
  • Supervise, train, and coordinate staff for events on service that exceeds the guest expectations. Waiter/Bartender evaluations.
  • Control of all alcoholic beverages during service in order to comply with the laws and regulations of the State of Utah.
  • Assist in the control of all assets of the department and of Snowbird.
  • Maintain Conference Operations standards in cleanliness and equipment handling.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.  Wine services and/or bar service required.
  • 1-2 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Food Handler Permit and Tips Certification.
  • Responsible for 1-30 wait staff depending on the type of function.
  • Responsible for ensuring all phases of the functions are properly attended to, as well as any new request from guest or management.  Without direct authority, contributes to the communication, implementation, and scheduling of job activities.  Trains, coordinates and gives staff assignments.
  • Requires the ability to apply mathematical skills in billing, and monitoring of functions by correctly calculating needs and use of product.  Requires knowledge of banquet service and fundamentals of hospitality service.  Requires knowledge of safety procedures and requirements for the hospitality and conference industry.  Ability to operate basic office equipment such as computer, telephone, copier, etc.
  • Ability to use computer software programs such as hotel system, catering program and excel spreadsheet.
  • The aptitude to modify staff and equipment for event to satisfy request of guest needs that fall within the guidelines of Conference Operations.  Requires the ability to communicate in writing on complex or ambiguous subjects.  Requires skills in working with others in situations that have little routine or structure.

Work Schedule

  • Shifts vary, may be early morning or late evening, weekends, holidays, depending on business levels.
  • Irregular hours, late shifts, shifts that are added and dropped at last minute.  Banquet functions can change due to guest request-additional hours, start earlier, and end earlier than schedule.

Working Conditions

  • Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from high business volumes, deadlines, continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry trays and other items needed for service.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting, long hours of standing on feet due to coverage of events, lots of walking due to large area that events could be held, i.e. multiple floors, multiple buildings, multiple outdoor locations.
  • Must be able to navigate outdoor spaces and move in between buildings while dealing with all the hazards and weather that are present in a mountain environment.
  • Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.
