Job Overview
As a Banquet Manager at Snowbird you will work under the direction of the Banquet Operations Sr. Manager and play a key role in executing successful banquet events by managing day-to-day operations, ensuring exceptional service delivery and a supporting a high-performing team.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Oversee and ensure the completion of conferences, special events, festivals, concerts, competitions and meal functions, according the Banquet Event Order (BEO) to successfully fulfill all agreements and optimize customer satisfaction and profitability.
- Interview, hire, and train banquet staff to always ensure client satisfaction and professionalism. Schedule banquet staff in order to meet guest needs as stated on Banquet Event Orders. Provide ongoing review, feedback, coaching and documentation of staff to ensure performance expectations and department standards are met and maintained.
- Act as a liaison between Conference Operations and other departments to operate the department efficiently and effectively and meet guest expectations.
- Must be available for staff and clients to support them in resolving any problems or conflicts, maximizing guest satisfaction.
- Supervise the maintenance and care of equipment and conference facilities to assure availability, function, appearance and cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
- Oversee the department’s proper control and management of alcoholic beverages to comply with the laws and regulations of the State of Utah.
- Responsible for banquet operations compliance with all company human resource management, payroll, purchasing, accounting and company policies and procedures in order assure legal, consistent, accurate and ethical operations.
- Travel: occasional travel.
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- College degree in related field preferred. Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.
- 2-4 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Food Handler Permit, Tips Cert, Sheriff Work Card
- Knowledge of conference business. Requires the ability to apply mathematical skills in budgeting and forecasting goals and revenues. Requires knowledge of banquet service and fundamentals. Requires knowledge of safety procedures and requirements for the hospitality and conference industry.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment such as computer, fax, telephone, copier, etc. Ability to use computer software programs such as hotel, ordering, payroll, and catering systems. Understanding of the principles of health and safety management.
- The ability to communicate clearly and precisely in a variety of significant situations (such as training, coaching, explaining and giving directions to employees). Requires the ability to interact with guests and customers of the resort in a friendly and accommodating manner and other departments in the resort. Ability to resolve client complaints. Work with staff to resolve challenges.
- Must have the ability to handle, process, maintain and protect guest personal information, including credit card information, in compliance with all company or department policies and procedures according to PCI rules and requirements. This includes privacy and confidentiality, reporting, storage and disposal of sensitive information. Will not share or disclose any guest personal or financial information to anyone unless authorized by the guest, manager or company or unless disclosure is permitted within departmental policies and procedures.
This position requires knowledge and understanding of PCI DSS, including the safe and secure handling and maintenance of personal, financial and credit card information of guests/customers. - Ability to plan, direct, and schedule work time behavior of conference operations and banquet staff. Applicant must be able to interview, hire, train and manage performance evaluation for all the banquet staff. Manager must be able to adjust staff and equipment needs to meet function requirements that can change or cancel at moment’s notice.
- Ability to communicate in writing on complex or ambiguous subjects is required. May require advanced skills in working with others in situations that have little routine or structure. Involves scheduling, coordinating and solving personnel problems (employment, retention, discipline, promotion, etc.). Ability to set standards and formulate work rules and procedures within established policies. Knowledge of the principles of human resource management.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Shifts vary, may be early morning or late evening, weekends, holidays, depending on business levels.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary, on occasional times of road closures.
- May experience unusual stress from high business volumes, deadlines, continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
- Work may be outdoors and requires exposure to cold or heat and other weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to carry trays, transport chairs and tables, and other items needed for events.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to navigate outdoor spaces and move in between buildings while dealing with all the hazards and weather that are present in a mountain environment.
- Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.
