Role Description: The Destination Sales Manager is a professional position that actively solicits business for Utah Valley through direct sales. This position is responsible to the Director of Destination Sales in the preparation and execution of an effective business plan to bring meetings & conventions and other group business to produce a positive economic impact for Utah Valley. Development, promotion and sales of the destination to meeting planners for the purpose of securing/hosting numerous and varied convention and business events to increase the economic impact of tourism, lodging room nights for Utah Valley hotels and resorts and awareness of Utah Valley as a visitor destination.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES (includes, but not limited to):
- Support the Director of Destination Sales in setting benchmarks, preparing timelines, creating strategies, and achieving goals.
- Coordinate and follow-up on all leads, including responding to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and creating bids until business either books definite, is lost, or regretted.
- Identify, target, and develop new business and growth opportunities for Utah Valley group business through research, solicitation, referrals and other methods within the assigned accounts and markets.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with venue managers, hotel partners, meeting planners, and the local community.
- Create and maintain a client base of prospects in the assigned markets. Maintain and utilize client databases and prospecting tools.
- Represent our destination at trade shows, industry meetings, marketplaces, or sales missions to attract new events.
- Offer professional and compelling presentations to selection committees to book events.
- Coordinate and conduct site tours for event planners to showcase our destination.
- Make clear, concise, accurate, and informative reports.
- Assists with marketing efforts with information to promote our destination for group business.
Qualifications
- Proven skills in sales, account management, and relationship building, preferably in destination marketing, hospitality, or tourism.
- Strong abilities in prospecting, lead generation, and pipeline management using CRM and related sales tools.
- Experience with group, meeting, or convention sales, including preparing proposals, bids, and presentations for diverse client segments.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and close business.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects, deadlines, and client requests with attention to detail.
- Comfort with frequent in-person meetings, site visits, and occasional travel for trade shows, client events, or industry conferences. Willing to work some evenings and weekends as required.
- Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace), virtual meeting tools, and CRM platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality, Tourism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle and provide own transportation.
- Knowledge of Utah Valley or the broader Utah tourism and meetings market is preferred but not required.
