Job Overview

As a Tram and Lift Mechanic you’ll maintain and repair mechanical equipment and systems for all chairlifts, rope tows and the tram in order to provide consistent, cost effective and safe operations for resort guests and employees.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Work safely with mechanical equipment and  systems in order to assure personal safety and the safety of guests, co-workers and Snowbird property and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs breakdowns on tram and chairlift systems in order to optimize operations and business services to guests.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, installation and replacement of parts on tram and chairlift mechanical systems in order to assure optimal operation and safety of equipment and cost of operations and repairs.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, installation and replacement of parts on lift systems in order to assure optimal operation and safety of equipment and cost of operations and repairs.
  • Assist in the daily operation of tram and chairlifts and oversee the daily operating procedures of tram and lift operators in order to optimize the operation of equipment.
  • Maintain the inventory of mechanical supplies and replacement parts in order to meet budget and operating expectations.

Travel: Occasional trips outside of Utah

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • 3-5 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
  • Must be able to ski or snowboard all of Snowbird’s terrain.
  • Ability to work on high structures, outside, and under inclement weather.
  • Comfortable using heavy equipment, power tools, hand tools, line equipment, rigging, and electrical equipment.
  • Safety oriented and familiar with safety procedures of equipment used.
  • Familiarity of ANSI B-77 and Utah Passenger Ropeway Safety Rules.
  • Working knowledge of Fixed Grip, Detachable ropeways and conveyors.
  • Must be able to ski to every lift tower with tools and parts in all conditions.
  • Ability to operate a snowmobile safely and competently in various terrain and conditions.
  • Skills in welding and fabrication a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines and/or hydraulics a plus but not required.
  • Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience with aerial tramways a plus but not required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
  • Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Shifts vary based on time of year, may be early morning or late evening, weekends, holidays, depending on business levels.
    Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
