REPORTS TO: Director of Destination Sales

SALARY RANGE: DOE, plus benefit package and bonus/incentive

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Destination Sales Manager is a professional position that actively solicits business for Utah Valley through direct sales. This position is responsible to the Director of Destination Sales in the preparation and execution of an effective business plan to bring tournaments, competitions, and other sporting events to produce a positive economic impact for Utah Valley.

OVERALL GOAL:

Development, promotion and sales of the destination to sports and events rights-holders for the purpose of securing/hosting numerous and varied state, regional, national, and international athletic competitions and championship events to increase the economic impact of sports tourism, lodging room nights for Utah Valley hotels and resorts and awareness of Utah Valley as a visitor destination.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES (includes, but not limited to):

  • Support the Director of Destination Sales in setting benchmarks, preparing timelines, creating strategies, and achieving goals.
  • Soliciting, negotiating, and finalizing facility use contracts and ensuring compliance with written agreements and established policies.
  • Coordinate and follow-up on all leads, including responding to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and creating bids until business either books definite, is lost, or regretted.
  • Review and evaluate event proposals and liaison with events staff for host agencies.
  • Identify, target, and develop new business and growth opportunities for Utah Valley sports through research, solicitation, referrals and other methods within the assigned accounts and markets.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with venue managers, hotel partners, tournament organizers, local sports clubs, and the local community.
  • Create and maintain a client base of prospects in the sports market and inventory of sports facilities in the county. Maintain and utilize client database and prospecting tools.
  • Represent our destination at sports trade shows, industry meetings, marketplaces, or sales missions to attract new events.
  • Offer professional and compelling presentations to selection committees to book events.
  • Coordinate and conduct site tours for event planners to showcase our destination.
  • Make clear, concise, accurate, and informative reports.
  • When necessary, help organize Local Organizing Committees for hosting tournaments and events.
  • Coordinates all grants, housing or other services to booked sporting events.
  • Assists with marketing efforts with information to promote our destination for sporting events.
  • May assist with the physical preparation and cleanup of facilities and equipment and perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Director of Sales.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years of experience with destination management organization, hotels or sports organizations with a demonstrated record of sales/marketing experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an academic institution (or equivalent experience and training).
  • Experience and knowledge with visitor bureau, sports commission, amateur and/or youth sports markets, and hospitality industry sales experience is preferred.
  • Ability to proactively manage multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, positive team player
  • Clear and concise communicator both verbally and in writing.
  • Willing to work some evenings and weekends and travel as required.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle and provide own transportation.
  • Proficient in MS Windows including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Gmail/G-Suite
  • Understanding the principles of positive customer service.
  • Ability to maintain contacts with prospects to promote our destination by email, social media and personal contacts.

MEASUREMENT STANDARDS:

  • Produce weekly and monthly sales reports to keep superiors and industry partners informed.
  • Annual/Quarterly agreed upon goals, including personal booking goals for room nights.
  • Completes work within established deadlines, timelines.
