Job Overview

The Pastry Supervisor plays a key role in overseeing daily pastry operations at the Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City. This position is responsible for ensuring the production of high-quality, consistent, and creative baked goods and desserts that meet or exceed guest expectations. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on pastry skills, leadership abilities, and the capability to support the team and lead in the absence of the Pastry Sous Chef.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily supervision and production of all pastry and baking operations, including preparation, baking, and presentation of pastries, desserts, and baked goods.
  • Ensure all recipes, preparation, and presentation standards are consistently followed.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and sanitation.
  • Train and guide pastry team members on techniques, recipes, and proper kitchen procedures.
  • Support inventory, ordering, and cost control efforts under the direction of the Pastry Sous Chef.
  • Communicate effectively with culinary and service teams to ensure seamless service and timely delivery of products.
  • Take charge of the pastry department in the absence of the Pastry Sous Chef.
  • Stay current with industry trends and bring creativity to the development of new dessert menus and seasonal offerings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on pastry experience in a professional kitchen or hotel setting preferred.
  • Culinary degree or related hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in preparing a wide range of products including mousses, custards, creams, cakes, cookies, and quickbreads.
  • Strong understanding of food safety standards and HACCP.
  • Demonstrated ability to work a single pastry station efficiently and independently.
  • Basic computer skills (inventory systems, ordering, scheduling, etc.).
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to train and motivate team members.
  • A passion for pastry arts and a genuine desire to satisfy guest needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and be on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
